I clearly remember my first day in my new career as a manufacturer’s representative. I started during a major tradeshow in Chicago. I was handed a customer list and told “good luck.”
My one question to all the veteran reps was “what do I say?” I just wanted to know what to say to my customers when I called them on the phone.
From those early beginnings, I went on to earn Rookie of the Year my first year and by the time I left I was earning 5 figures in monthly commissions.
I went out on my own and started my own Manufacturer’s Rep agency. Over the next 17 years, I spent thousands of hours personally training over one hundred salespeople. Those that followed my guidance built a successful, six-figure sales career. Those who didn’t moved on pretty quickly.
